Times Blames Tourism Queensland For SBTA Collapse
22-Jul-08:M The South Burnett Times today blamed Tourism Qld for the collapse of the region's tourism association. In a thundering editorial, the Times said the merger of the SBTA with the Fraser Coast had led to the loss of two-thirds of the SBTA's members and added that it thought the region would be better off going it alone.
South Burnett Rider Wins Top Campdraft
21-Jul-08: South Burnett horseman Mark Buttsworth has won the Acton Super Beef Australian Open Campdraft, which was held outside Rockhampton yesterday. Mr. Buttsworth (who lives in Kingaroy) will take home $17,500 in cash plus a gold camp-oven trophy. Read more on Stock & Land
South Burnett Kids Denied Trades Training
21-Jul-08: Member for Wide Bay Warren Truss has blasted the Rudd Govt for failing to deliver on its election promise to put a trades training centre in every high school. "The Govt promised to fund 2,650 schools," Mr Truss said, "but have now announced funding for just 34. And none are in the Wide Bay-Burnett". Read more by clicking here
Council To Get Tough On Local Litterbugs
18-Jul-08: The South Burnett Regional Council will issue $150 on the spot fines to anyone caught throwing rubbish from cars, into gutters or on the street. The Council's new "get tough" stance follows the State Govt's ramping up of the Environmental Protection Act to allow stronger anti-littering provisions.
Blackbutt Wins 2008 Friendliest Town Award
17-Jul-08: Blackbutt has won the "Friendliest Town" Award in the annual Ergon Energy Tidy Towns competition. The award was accepted by Cr. Debra Palmer last night on behalf of the Blackbutt community. Blackbutt is the 2nd town in the region to win the award, which was first secured by Wondai in 2004.
South Burnett Pork Wins Top Sausage Gongs
16-Jul-08: South Burnett pork is the "secret ingredient" that has propelled Pomona butcher Gitsham Prime Foods to the top of the culinary tree. Owner Allan Gitsham attributes his success in regional and state competitions to pork that he sources from "around Kingaroy". Read more in the Sunshine Coast Daily
Cherbourg Mourns Passing Of Sports Legend
16-Jul-08: Boxing fans are mourning the death of sporting legend Jeff Dynevor, who passed away on Saturday. Mr. Dynevor was the first Aboriginal athlete to win a Commonwealth gold medal, which he did at the Perth Games in 1962. His funeral will be held in Cherbourg on Wednesday. Depression Forum In Kingaroy Weds 16th
15-Jul-08: A forum dealing with how to recognise depression in others and how to deal with it if you have it yourself will be held at Kingaroy RSL on Wednesday night, July 16th. The forum is being run by the Kingaroy Rotary Club and Incitec Pivot Ltd and is one of 40 being held in rural areas. Read more about it on South Burnett Health

15-Jul-08: The WBBACC will be holding a forum in Kingaroy on July 30 to get feedback on local priorities for developing our region's communities. Region Farewells Top Ambulance Officer
15-Jul-08: The Qld Ambulance Service farewelled one of its top officers last week. Murgon ambo Noel Pilkington has retired after 33 years in the job. 29 of those years were spent at Murgon, where he won two major awards in 2005 (including the Qld Patient Transport Officer Award).
